Smart Link Building

Smart Link Building

There are many nuances and things to know about how the game has changed dramatically in recent years. In fact, if you do not know these things, and go about backlink building the old way, well, you’re in for a rough ride in the search engines.

This post is part 1 of our SEO series, and is about just what constitutes smart link building.. The first thing to discuss is the importance of relevancy. Relevancy is simple, if you sell computer repair services on your website, and service a target market within, say, Indiana. Then you should not have a backlink from a web design blog out of the Czech Republic. (Unless of course they designed your website). Unhealthy link profiles are rampant with this sort of thing, and Google will let you know in your ranking results that they no longer are happy with this kind of thing.

Another example? Okay. Let’s say for the same computer repair website above you also have a link from a PR6 travel and tours website. This looks to Google very suspicious as a purchased link for one. But that aside, it’s just not relevant to your business. So we advise that you avoid this kind of link building at all costs.

So now we know what to avoid. So do we do nothing? Just sit on our laurels waiting for thousands of relevant websites to link to us? Nope, we sure don’t. Instead, we implement a smart link building approach that builds relevant, high quality links in an organic manner. Ok, great. No we know what to do, but where’s the how? Stay tuned for Part 2 to find out!

The Importance of Reputation Management

The Importance of Reputation Management

Never before has reputation management been so closely monitored by small and large companies. You not only have to be careful what people are saying in the real world, but also cyber space. That’s right, if you get even one major negative review on the internet, your whole business model could come crumbling down. It’s for that reason that you should definitely be careful about what you are doing on the web in the name of anything professional that you’re doing, and with that comes the notion of social media management and curating the information that goes on there. This may sound foreign, but it’s one way that you will sustain a long career path on the web, as well as in the brick and mortar world.

For those that aren’t sure that they have enough time to commit to these pages, it’s important to look for a service that can do the job for you. There are a lot of different ways that you can move forward with information of this magnitude and the best companies out there know how to market things correctly. If you aren’t able to keep up with the marketplace that seems to be ever changing, than it’s time to let someone else take over on your behalf. There are several benefits to being social on the web today, and they aren’t all in regards to marketing.

Companies that want to appeal to a whole new demographic will want to make sure that they are on social networks to ensure that they are not missing out on what is a vulnerable captive audience. Getting them involved in your business strategy is the key to success on the web today, and even though some will not fully be able to jump in and interact with them on every single keynote, you can have a service manage your reputation online and make sure that your brand is represented in a good manner, one that is not just “spamming” everyone.

Social media was once thought to be a trend that was going to go away soon, but it has been changed and most people are understanding that it’s not going to go away anytime soon. You may find yourself thinking the very same thing right now, assuming that in time it’s going to simply wash away, but that’s definitely not the case. However, even if it were a trend, if you’re not on board with it on any capacity, you might miss out on something grand, and that is worth looking into for SEO, marketing, and to make new and lasting friends, not just clients.

Connecting the dots on these pages can seem like an arduous task, which is why there are companies that can help you sort out the issues and get you in front of the right audience, and keep your brand from becoming a dinosaur amongst tech savvy individuals. Take time to look into this on a deeper level and make sure that it’s part of your overall promotional goals, so that you can end up on top of your niche.

Silly Little Hummingbird

Silly Little Hummingbird

Put simply, the “Hummingbird” is just the name of the most recent algorithm update that Google has implemented, to improve search results. And guess what, that’s what every Google algorithm update is about, pretty much without fail. Yet, there is a certain terror that spreads across the land when news of a pending update hits.

We so often find ourselves wondering, why the terror? If you just stick to what have always been good online marketing techniques and best practices, well, then 99% of the time, your website(s) will do just fine. This being said, here is a basic primer on the good ole’ Hummingbird.

01

Like the other updates, the Hummingbird is just another search engine algorithm update that Google has implemented to improve search results.

02

The Hummingbird went into effect actually in late August of this year,
but Google didn’t announce it until late September.

03

Why the name “Hummingbird”?
Google said simply, like a hummingbird, this update is “precise and fast”.

04

Hummingbird was the first major update to the Google search algorithm in many years, contrary to popular belief about the gravity of “Penguin”, “Panda” and other update from recent years. Those were relatively minor, while Hummingbird was a serious re-write.

05

Another way to think about Hummingbird is as a new engine built on both existing and new replacement parts, configured in a way to better serve the search user demands of today, as opposed to engine running for the needs of ten years ago, with outmoded parts and low efficiency. That kind of thing.

06

Google is focusing with the Hummingbird on “Conversational search“. What this boils down to is that people tend to search, in some niches more than others, in a conversation manner, especially when speaking searches. So the algorithm can read these searches in a more conversational manner. In this way, Google has indicated that Hummingbird is giving closer attention to every word in a search query or long-tail keyword phrase — in other words the whole sentence or “conversation” is considered, rather than just a 1 or 2 particular keywords. Again, the goal is better search results, nothing mystical happening here.

07

So what does this mean for the world of SEO? Not much, actually – business as usual, pretty much. Google’s says that SEOs and webmasters should stick to the tried and true – having original, high-quality content. Signals of content quality, such as social sharing of your content, that have been important in historically are still important. Hummingbird just allows Google to sift through these signals in more efficient, and hopefully improved, ways.

What is Google Panda?

What is Google Panda?

Google’s recent announcement regarding the roll out of Panda 4.1 captured the attention of many website owners and online users instantly. The 27th Panda update is basically designed as a filter to identify and penalize websites with low quality content.

The last algorithm update, Panda 4.0, was released in May 2014. It was also designed to prevent websites with poor quality content from getting higher SERPS. So which websites did Panda 4.0 affect the most? Press release distribution websites and some medical, lyric, and game portals had lost a great segment of their search engine traffic.

What’s New and Different in Panda 4.1?

So what makes the latest update different from the previous algorithm? Well, according to Google, Panda 4.1 will not only be more specific, but will also allow small and medium sized websites with high quality content to achieve better search engine rankings.

Wondering why Google has called the latest update Panda 4.1? The search engine company itself called the previous algorithm Panda 4.0 and considered it an important update. Panda 4.1 makes absolute sense because it is numbered in the sequence that the company has released these updates. Simple as that.

New Opportunities or New Penalties?

Panda 4.1 brings both.
The rollout indicates that websites that were penalized by Panda 4.0 now have a great opportunity to emerge, provided they made the right alterations to their content. So if you own a small or medium sized website, were penalized by Panda 4.0, and made appropriate changes to your website, then Panda 4.1 will certainly let you know that you did the right thing.

However, the rollout also indicates that websites that were previously not penalized by Panda 4.0 might get impacted. If you’ve observed a sudden and noticeable decline in your website traffic since last week, you’ve probably been hit by Panda 4.1.

Before you get worried about this situation, consider making the right moves to restore your online ranking. Since the algorithm update is aimed at penalizing low quality website content, the best thing you can do to recover your ranking is consistently produce valuable, high quality content and eliminate poor quality content from your website.

Whether you delete or improve “thin” content, provide good links, or include social media share buttons in your website, make sure to do whatever you can to deliver your promises to your online users. After all, Google checks user engagement closely, and you would definitely not want to avoid the dirty Panda that is Panda 4.1!

Keyword Analysis for Local Businesses

Importance of Keyword Analysis for Online Businesses & Tips to Leverage it For Optimum Success

With over 1 billion websites crawling over the web, it’s not easy to compete online. Your site’s web ranking is the key factor that determines your online competitiveness. If your website fails to appear in the top SERPs, your competitors will hog a bigger piece of the market while you’ll be left eating the crumbs. And this is something no business owner wants!

According to astudy published by Chitika, the top listing on search engine results receive 33 percent of the search engine web traffic whereas the second gets only 18 percent. What’s important to understand here is that high SERP ranking matters but only when it is for the right keywords! Wondering why? It’s simple your business success is gauged by the lead conversion rate not by the number of clicks. And this is only possible if you attract target leads and filter out the random. For targeted lead generation, it is imperative to optimize your business website on the right keywords (the words typed into the search box by your potential target audience).

When it comes to finding the right keywords to optimize and rank high on, keyword analysis/research is the key. Through keyword analysis you can:

Learn about the keywords, terms and phrases your audience searches for to find service providers like you
Learn more about your potential customers

Predict demand shift

Respond proactively to the changing market conditions

Produce content, products and services that your web searchers are looking for actively
Understand what motivates the customer

Simply put, keyword analysis helps you find relevant industry keywords that are money makers for your business.

Now let’s get down to some tips that can help you find relevant keywords-take your online business to greater heights and stay ahead in the virtual world:

1. Avoid Guesswork- Use Keyword Research Tools to Find the Relevant Keywords for Your Business

Guessing keyword can cost you business and time. So, instead of shooting in the dark, use authentic keyword research tools to find out what words and phrases your customers really type into the search engines like Google and Bing. Keyword tools not only provide you knowledge about keywords in demand but some also provide you estimated search volume, competition level and the cost of running paid campaigns for certain keywords.

You can use keyword tools like:

Google AdWords
Microsoft Bing Ads Intelligence
Google Trends
Wordtracker

2. Dive Deeper-Assess the Keyword’s Value

You can’t possibly optimize all keywords therefore, look for high converting keyword terms and long tail phrases. By optimizing such keywords, you can:

 – Boost your web ranking
– Increase online visibility
– Attract targeted leads

Target lead generation can help lower your site’s bounce rate and improve conversion rate. To learn what keywords you should optimize, you must first assess and understand the value of a keyword. For this it is important to make a hypothesis and then test it.

Others tips to assess the value of a given keyword are:

See which websites already rank for the keywords you want to optimize. This will give you important insight about the competition and find out how hard it will be to compete on the given term.

Look for search engine advertisements running on the top or right hand side for the given keyword. Search ads means the keyword is of high value. However, search ads on top of the organic results means the keyword is outstandingly lucrative and has a high conversion rate.

Buy test traffic and over the course of 200 to 300 clicks track impression and conversion rate.

Get started now….Good Luck!

Understanding Google’s Local Search and 3-Pack Display

Understanding Google’s Local Search and 3-Pack Display

Statistically, 82% of individuals use search engines to find local businesses and 50% of all mobile searches are conducted to find local results. More importantly, 61% of such searches are done with intent to purchase. Smart people know that Google’s local search can unveil amazing local businesses and places.

For instance, if you are searching for furnished or corporate apartments in Baltimore, Google will show three such local businesses accompanied by a map (known as a 3-pack display) with the best company occupying the top spot. The platform is officially known as Google My Business and is a free digital platform offered by the California-based technology giant. It serves two purposes:

To assist business owners grow their online visibility.
To help you and others search, engage with and assess businesses in local neighborhoods.

Search queries with local intent contain not only information about what the user is searching, but also where the information should lead to such as a city name, street address or geographic directions like latitude and longitude. For example, against your long tail keyword corporate housing Baltimore MD Google’s 3-pack display would show three most credible options.

The differentiating factor of such searches is its implicit or explicit local intent. A search that contains a location modifier such as Queens, NY or 5th Ave qualifies as an explicit local search. A search that mentions a product or service such as bars or automobile workshops is an implicit local search.

Remember, the top local result would be occupied by a Google Certified SEO Company. It is an accreditation that is considered the benchmark of SEO professionalism as Google puts strenuous efforts into examining its partnered companies.

Therefore, an entrepreneur can post through Google My Business to publish events, products and services straight to Google Maps and Search. By regularly creating quality posts, you would be placing your content in front of customers when they will see your business listing on Google.

It is essential to know that since August 2015, Google has updated the local search results display by showing three local businesses instead of seven. In an SEO world it means that the 7-pack is now a 3-pack. This has impacted businesses diametrically as the update was not a variation in local search ranking influencers, but a transformation in the way local business info is displayed on the SERP. All of this further elevates the importance of organic growth and cut-throat search engine optimization.

It is not easy to choose an authentic SEO Company when they all claim to drive organic traffic to your website. Therefore, let the most popular search engine fulfill your need for authenticity by showing you a Google Certified SEO Company as its topmost local result.

Google’s local search, when optimized properly gives you the power of visibility through continuous engagement with your audience from your phone, tablet or desktop computer.
